The AirSense 10 is a nice looking machine! If you didn’t know what a CPAP machine was and you saw it on a friends night stand you would think it was an iPod dock!
The colorful LCD display and lit up dial just add to the impression that this isn’t a piece of medical equipment. All of which makes it much nicer to have it sat next to your bed and not feel self-conscious.
It has a very small footprint of 10.4 x 4.57 x 5.91 inches and weighs a lightweight 2.75 lbs. The combined weight of all accessories and the travel bag add up to 5.25 lbs.
Assembly & Setup
When you open the box you are greeted by the included travel bag which has the CPAP machine and all its accessories safely stored away inside.
The travel bag is made of padded polyester and has a quality feel to it. It wouldn’t protect the machine from any serious drops but would be more than adequate for most traveling and looks nicely non-medical.
Assembly is very minimal with the humidifier being built-in, and the SD-card and filters already fitted. The only assembly you need to carry out is to plug in the power supply and the heated hose.
Once the hose has been plugged in you can rotate it so it is routed in the direction of your bed.
The heated tubing has a nice right-angled connector which helps to keep the footprint of the machine as small as possible as the tube doesn’t have to turn a corner as it exits the machine.
The AirSense features a SmartStart option that means the machine is in permanent standby mode. To start the machine all you have to do is fit your mask and start breathing. As soon as the machine detects your first breath it will start to operate. It doesn’t get easier than that!
Similarly, once you remove the mask, the AirSense will detect no breathing and will go back into standby mode.
If you need to conserve electricity. For example, if you’re in a trailer, then you can switch off the machine by holding the Start/Stop button for a few seconds until the screen turns off.
At the end of your night’s sleep, once you remove the mask, the LCD display will show a handy summary report of your night’s sleep. The amount of data shown will depend on whether you have it set to Essentials or Plus i.e simple or thorough.
In Essentials mode you will see hours used, mask leak data and humidifier usage. In Plus mode it will show additionally AHI, CSA events, pressure data. You can view data for extended periods up to the last 12 months.
Information such as mask seal and humidifier usage is shown with an appropriate smiley or frowning face which makes it easy and quick to see if these things are working well or not.
The LCD display is very clear and handily switches on and off automatically. As soon as you start breathing into the mask it turns on and then a few seconds later it turns off, requiring a press of the large dial to light up again. This is a useful feature as it’s a common problem to be kept awake by a bright display light in your face on other CPAP machines.

This is one of the quietest CPAP machines I’ve ever used. The motor produces only a whisper of a hum. And it is a very consistent sound that you will have no problems falling asleep to. ResMed quote a noise level of 26.6 dB which makes it one of the quietest CPAP machines available. To put the dB level into context, most white noise machines operate at close to 50 dB.

Cleaning is made easy with carefully designed parts that can be removed and cleaned in hot soapy water.
The humidifier chamber has been redesigned. Compared to the previous S9 model it is much easier for you to clean having fewer edges and easier access.
The included filter is disposable and easy to access for replacement. It’s recommended you replace it once every six months or sooner if you live in a dusty environment. You can also buy a HEPA filter as an optional extra.
To help you remember when to clean and replace your mask, tubing, water chamber and filter, separate reminders can be set up on the machine. These will set an alarm and message on the display at the set interval. This is a very useful option as it’s so easy to forget and keeping germs and mold away from your CPAP machine is very important!
The AirSense 10 is a good choice for a travel CPAP machine. Its small size and light weight make it less of a burden. And the included travel case is ideal for stowing it in the car trunk or train/plane luggage space without having to worry about it getting damaged.
The power adaptor is multi-voltage and so will work in any country. If you plan to take it camping then it can also run on batteries if you buy the optional battery pack.
The AirSense 10 is all about making life easy for you. From the initial setup to daily use to routine maintenance. Every aspect of the AirSense has been designed for ease of use.
For most people, you can set everything to auto and let the advanced algorithms and sensors choose the best airflow delivery for your condition.
If however, you find the auto settings aren’t quite right for you, maybe you need a little more airflow than it’s providing or you find the ramp up not gradual enough then you can easily change any aspect of the pressure delivery.
The menu system is incredibly intuitive to use. The dial input and clear icon driven menu system lend a quality iPod feel to it so you will feel confident changing settings from your first use.
This is a high-quality CPAP machine that will provide you with every functionality currently available.
The advanced features and thorough data analysis available from the AirSense will give you the best possible chance of improving your Sleep Apnea.
